Masi Might Get Canned

Lewis Hamilton has not yet decided on his return to Formula 1 for 2022 and is said to decide after the conclusion of FIA inquiry into last season’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix (which was a fiasco).

I’d be surprised if he doesn’t, I don’t think he’s a quitter. But maybe he’s holding off until after the inquiry to exert some pressure. Pressure for what?

GPFans is reporting a quid pro quo deal with the FIA. They say that the BBC reported this (but I cannot find it)

Mercedes had dropped their appeal after ‘agreeing a quid pro quo with the FIA’.

The supposed deal stated Masi and FIA head of single-seater technical matters Nikolas Tombazis would be removed from their roles for the upcoming campaign, although Mercedes has denied this.

I think removing Michael Masi would be a good move. A necessary (but not sufficient) move. His Race direction has been rather sketchy (at best). Track limits, last race fiasco, fielding calls from team principles during safety car events, Belgium non-GP 2021, the list is a lot longer than it should be.
